We were recently approached by the Palmer Hall in Fairford as they had quite an outdated audio system and projector.
Due to the advanced age of the equipment, and lack of compatibility with modern systems, it meant that event setup was often stressful and not straightforward.
We set out to improve performance, reliability and compatibility.
Palmer Hall was originally opened as a community asset for the people of Fairford backed by local businesses at the time. It’s operated by a fantastic and passionate committee led by Sue Crowley.
The upgrades were installed in order to help the hall attract more clients. It really is a wonderful space if you are in the area and need to host an event.
The Projector
Previously, the projector had been mounted from a pole in the centre of the room, and not only did it look unsightly, it would also be in the way if the hall was used for any ball games or activities.
We discreetly mounted the replacement Panasonic VM-Z51SEJ within the stage structure behind the curtains, with the image being projected onto a 120″ electric projector screen.
This did result in a challenge, due to the short throw projection needed in order to display in that location without interfering with the curtains and lighting system.
Controlling the system with a keypad
One of the challenges with a shared space is ease of use. How do you operate it? Well, if you want something simple, you can’t get more slick than one of Sysflex’ Room Control Keypads.
Low cost, because it utilises a Stream Deck and a Raspberry Pi, these are hugely reliable and resiliant customisable devices that can turn on and interact with any devices you have. AV Control, made simple.

A Smart, compact audio rack
The system utilises some fantasic equipment in the rack, including an Intusonic audio mixer, along with Adastra and Citronic amplification.
The audio system also features a DSP (Digital Signal Processor), featuring outputs for the Yamaha PA speakers, outputs for the satellite RCF speakers, along with a dedicated hearing loop output.
All controlled via keypad presets for easy use.
PA System sound and perfect coverage
This sound system combines two Yamaha CBR15 PA loudspeakers with six RCF satellite speakers to provide powerful, evenly distributed audio coverage.
The Yamaha speakers deliver high-output front-of-house sound, with lots of power.
The RCF satellites extend clear speech and music throughout the venue, ensuring consistent volume and excellent intelligibility for audiences across the entire space.
This configuration is ideal for halls, function rooms, conference spaces, and multi-purpose venues where balanced sound coverage is essential.
