Bristol AV INSTALLATION: A 180-Inch Projection Screen for a Unique Bristol Venue

Sysflex AV recently completed a projector and projection screen installation for a unique restaurant and event venue in St George, Bristol.

The venue combines great food, an industrial interior and a relaxed atmosphere with the ability to host everything from regular movie nights to major sporting events. With their existing projection setup needing an upgrade, we were asked to install a much larger screen while ensuring that the new AV equipment complemented the distinctive look of the building.

A Quality Screen with attention to detail

At the centre of the installation is a Sapphire 180-inch projection screen, providing a huge viewing area suitable for films, sporting events, presentations and other entertainment.

We chose Sapphire for the screen because of the quality of the product and its suitability for a permanent professional installation. At 180 inches, the screen creates a genuinely impressive focal point without the venue needing to rely on multiple smaller displays.

Importantly, the screen housing was supplied in black rather than the more conventional white finish. This small detail made a significant difference to the finished installation, allowing the screen to blend naturally with the venue’s dark industrial décor.

One of the most interesting aspects of this Bristol AV installation was working with the industrial character of the building rather than trying to hide it.

Instead of using conventional domestic-style mounting methods, the new projector screen was installed using Unistrut, chain and appropriate structural fixings. This gave us a secure mounting solution for such a large screen while also looking completely at home amongst the exposed services and industrial features of the venue.

For hospitality AV installations, the appearance of the equipment can be almost as important as its performance.

Restaurants, bars and clubs spend considerable time developing their interiors, so adding a large projector, screen and visible mounting hardware needs to be carefully considered.

In this case, the industrial mounting method actually became part of the aesthetic.

Reusing the Existing Projector – But Improving the Installation

It wasn’t necessary to replace equipment simply for the sake of it.

The venue’s existing projector was still suitable for their requirements, so we relocated and professionally remounted the projector at high level.

The projector itself was white, which made it particularly noticeable against the darker surroundings. To improve the finished appearance and provide additional physical protection, we installed it inside a black projector cage.

This helped the projector disappear into the structure of the building rather than becoming an unwanted visual feature, while also making the installation more suitable for a busy restaurant and events environment.

The result is a much cleaner and more professional-looking installation without unnecessarily replacing working equipment.

AV Designed for Restaurants, Bars and Hospitality Venues

Large-format projection can be an excellent option for restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs and hospitality venues, particularly where a space needs to serve several different purposes.

A professionally installed projector and screen can allow the same area to be used for:

Great Pizza, Great Atmosphere and a Brilliant Bristol Venue

Of course, an AV installation is only part of what makes a venue work.

This is a genuinely cool Bristol venue with bags of character, a fantastic industrial feel and, importantly, some amazing pizzas.

It was therefore particularly important that our installation didn’t detract from what was already there. Rather than making the AV equipment look like something that had been added afterwards, the black screen housing, projector cage, Unistrut and chain mounting all help the equipment sit naturally within the space.

It’s a good example of how commercial AV doesn’t have to mean filling a venue with obvious technology.
